  1. I think it's fascinating that the motors are in the same form factor as Tamiya mini 4wd motors.

    I wonder what getting two Jet Dashes or two Plasma Dashes would be like in the Rayven. I feel like there would need to be a battery mod in order to support these, however...

    1. it would be prudent IMO. providing adequate power for actual motor upgrades seems like a no brainer. Noise and Dart wear would be concerns of mine. I would probably line the entire outer barrel length with neoprene for noise reduction, and line the inside of the handle with open cell foam to compensate for the noise.

      IDK what do do about dart damage though.

    2. I imagine dart wear would be minimal with the right kind of stefans, which we can now viably use in magazines thanks to another post on here.

  4. Would roughening up the flywheels increase range? I'm thinking that smooth flywheels might not have enough friction for optimum firepower.

    Possible, though it can't be too rough or the foam darts might get worn out or damaged, maybe applying a thin layer of textured/grip tape could work too.

  7. Hey Sg, I was wondering about the flywheel design. Do you think that rebarreling the blaster would help anything? Im thinking brass might just help reduce drag

  8. SG Nerf- Have you considered weighting the flywheels? I thought that after the voltage and motor mods it would not take significantly longer to spin up, but would also lose less speed on each shot. This would extend your range at high rates of fire. The weighting would also have to be perfectly symmetrical to prevent vibration. But this is all just conjecture haha. I would love to hear what you think and if you have any experience with weighting flywheels.

      Well, i've tested weighing the flywheels before, and while it does help them maintain the rotating energy for a longer period when the power is cut... it also takes a noticeably longer time for the weighted flywheels to spin up, depending on the amount of additional weight added.

      So i guess it all depends on the setup that you prefer.

  9. Hey SG, is it my imagination or is the barrel section (the orange tube) the same length and diameter as the one out of the Stampede? (If it is the same that saves me a bit of work on my glow enhancement mod)

      The front orange barrel section in the Rayven has the same ID and OD as the one in the Stampede... though the Rayven's orange barrel length is 2.5cm shorter. :)

      I make the dummy batteries on my own, they are simply hollow AAA to AA battery shell adapters with a length of thick copper wire positioned inside which link both ends of the metal contacts. :)

      I've not tested that method before, i guess you can try it out and see if it works... though i'd personally be more confident using wiring instead. :)

  10. SG Nerf re: Noise

    IDK if anyone has tried this, but as a sound engineer, I may have a simple cheap although crude solution to the noise generated by the flywheels. Sound is basicallly Vibrations traveling through matter. However one can diffuse the energy of the vibrations by simply appplying open cell foam or 3mm thick strips of foam rubber to much of the internal dead space of the blaster, and perhaps stylistically along the exterior. I have applied this to a Maverick and there was a notable decrease in sound level. I hope this helps out those who are concerned with stealth and other noise related troubles :)

    I have found a way to reduce the decibel level enough to make it significantly less noticeable at a distance greater than 3 meters. Lining the area around the engine housing with dense, open cell foam can reduce the sound level by 10 decibels, which makes the blaster difficult to discern from background noise. the Trade off is, depending on the thickness of the foam, the engines run a little hotter and a little slower, affecting range (using basic Duracell batteries). I think that your mods will fix these issues but at a marked increase in noise output. this week My trustfires should arrive, and I am going to try to find a denser, however thinner, foam to test. Should be promising and I'll post my findings in the comments soon :-)

  12. I want to see about replacing the nerf rayven dasg motor with the plasma dash motor.
    Would that work and would it be any more powerful?

    I've been looking for other plasma dash motors to see what I could find, and I'm hoping I can "upgrade" my rayven.

    1. 4xdblack,

      Motor replacements can be done (ie. change to Plasma Dash motors), and the flywheel speeds can become faster (and ranges further) as a result, but note that at higher speeds, there can tend to be more slippage and mis-fires so you'll have to test and tune the speed so that shot reliability is still maintained.

      Most modders usually stick with the stock motors and just tune the existing speed with voltage upgrades, which is usually enough to balance reliability and range.

  13. Has anyone tried out replacing da flywheels with remotoe control car wheels+rims instead? that can compensate the slippage in theory, but uncertain in reality

      Yes, its the same method... just wire a pressure switch behind the trigger, like in the Barricade mod.

  15. SGN, do u know what is happening?
    When I pull the trigger on my Rayven, it sometimes has trouble moving back forwards. It will go if I push it but it sometimes doesn't do it automatically.

      Sounds like the trigger mechanism in your unit is either mis-aligned of one of the parts is damaged, you'll have to open it up to check and fix.

      Alternatively, just exchange it at the store for a new working unit.

  16. those rubber stip things on the flywheels are they important? or are they just wear and tear sorta thing? Would it matter if you ripped them off? (cos i kinda did)

      I guess they are meant to improve grip on the foam darts, if you find alot of slippage, then just apply a layer of rubber tape to replace it.

  18. I've done the dual plasma motors... DONT DO IT!

    IT does not have enough torque to eject the darts and it rated to only run at max 4v...

    I'm gonna get another Rayven and just up the voltage to either 8.4v or 12.6v... I had the stock motor running at 16.8v without the resistors for about 50-100 darts continuously and stock motors died immediately after that... so i think we shouldn't go more than double or triple from the 4.8v...
