Nerf Dart Tag Snapfire 8 - Plunger Comparison to Nerf Nite Finder

Plunger Dimensions for Comparison

Nite Finder Plunger
Inner diameter (ID) = 2.4cm
Plunger draw = 4.5cm
Total effective air volume = 20.37 cubic cm

Snapfire 8 Plunger
Inner diameter (ID) = 3.2cm
Plunger draw = 2.5cm
Total effective air volume = 20.11 cubic cm

Overall, both plungers seem to have similar effective air volume displacement. :)

  1. Wow, seems like Nerf did a great job with this blaster. Decent ranges with a fast RoF. Now all that's left to do is mod it xD

    1. does it realy need much modding? its the first and so far only semi-auto blaster that ISNT a noisy flywheel. that in and of itself is enough for me.

  2. at first i thought i cant mod it but i am thinking that if i get one i might replace that huge spring there and give the yellow shells a paintjob to match the nstrike elite theme xD

  3. and also giving it a rear loading mech to make it either my HvZ primary or secondary hope this will make a great secondary alongside with my Orange mod worked Alpha trooper :D

    1. It might be a bit hard to have it rear load, since the barrels are so close to the other internals and it is so small.

    2. Well maybe your right having to sacrifice Aesthetics for rear loading sucks a bit (You have to remove the all shells then AR's except the inner one on where internals are placed

      Delete
    3. It looks like all you'd have to do would be to cut out a decent hole in front of the trigger and remove the pegs for it to be rear loading

  4. Does the plunger get its power from that long extension spring?

    1. Goodatthis,

Yes, the plunger is powered by the extension spring linked by an actuation system.

  5. the trigger hits 3 flap like things i think The first flap goes for rotating the barrels the second flap primes the blaster then the third flap shoots the blaster and returns the trigger in place and that small plunger tube is really small which i assume why Hasbro put in a power option for the blaster As for modding AR's can be removed i think spring can be replaced (as long you have strong thumbs to press the trigger) if i can get one of these whenever it comes to The U.S maybe i can analyze how the triggers flaps works and mods that can be done to it if i can ill post it up on NerfSg forums :D

    1. DarkSonarch,

Okay, from what i've analyzed so far, the trigger plates seem to be non-functional, they seem to be just there to fill up the space (probably to cover the gaps that would have otherwise appeared), only the front trigger plate piece is linked to the main actuating mechanism, which does all the priming, turret rotating and firing work.

As for the plunger tube, its short but quite wide (almost the width of a Longshot plunger tube), so there is still a decent amount of air volume being compressed, i guess it's designed that way to compensate for the shorter priming draw.

Yeah, the extension spring can be replaced with a heavier load one, but then the user's grip strength has to be much stronger too. :)

    2. Okay maybe if i can find a higher load extension spring or make one of my own using mom's tools and metal this can punch through at least 75 feet on power mode and 50 on speed mode hoping this can take a 6-8 KG load spring any thoughts on making trigger pull easier with power mode?

    3. DarkSonarch,

Well, i guess the best way to make the trigger pull easier would be to "mod the user"... invest in those hand grip exercisers, and start training to build up grip strength. :)

  6. Do my eyes deceive me?
I do not see any air restrictors.

I think my first mod will be to enlarge the trigger greatly so I can use my entire hand rather than just my trigger finger.

    1. Well, I think Nerf has thought of this before, and if they installed Air Restrictors, then the gun wouldn't shoot very far. So they need to do everything they can to make the gun shoot far, seeing that's it's semi automatic without a motor.

  7. Does the Snapfire have the same design as the Swarmfire/Speedswarm in that the barrel merely has pegs and the AR is contained in the plunger unit?

    1. P13c30fch33s3,

Yes, that is correct, the Snapfire has the same turret barrel pegs and plunger tube AR design as in the Swarmfire and Speedswarm models.

  8. I am happy that Nerf made this type of blaster. One day there will be Snapfire style Stampedes, Vulcans, etc. :-)

    1. I don't know what you mean by snapfire style stampedes and vulcans? if you are talking about semi auto trigger pull then not going to happen, the vulcan loses what it is if it becomes semi auto and I think it would be cool if a semi auto rifle styled blaster could be made like this but i don't know how it can work with out electronics because you have the whole breaching process.

      Delete
    2. I don't know either, maybe a trigger that uses pulleys to operate the breach and plunger?

  9. Does the Snapfire has air restrictors?

    1. Anonymous,

Yes, the Snapfire has an air restrictor at the plunger tube, same as in the Swarmfire and Speedswarm models.

  10. lovely. looks highly mechanical. i'm guessing when you pull the trigger it extends the spring upwards and probably pushes on a lever to pull the plunger back. then when the trigger reaches a certain point it slips and the spring contracts back to its original position. SG nerf to confirm? Cheers on this one mate.

  11. I can totally see someone putting these internals into a Maverick body...how awesome would that be?!

  12. I've been waiting for this gun for a long time...

  13. Speaking from a statistical point of view, I really appreciate your cubic centimeter measurements of the plunger designs. It gives a very good theoretical performance comparison between blasters.

Suffice to say comparisons like that also have the ability to lead to very good theoretical modding applications.

  14. Do you have any idea on the spring load (in kg)?

    ReplyDelete
    Replies
    1. Anonymous,

Its abit tough to gauge the stock spring load in this blaster.. but i'd guess its probably around 2-3kg load.

      Delete
    2. How much of a range increase would there be if i put a 4 kg spring in the Snapfire with the AR removed?

      Delete
    3. Anonymous,

Maybe a few ft more (its still limited by a small plunger volume)... i guess you'll have to test and see.

Increasing the spring load in this blaster isn't practical though, because it is primed using finger strength... so unless you have really strong fingers it's going to be really difficult and tiring to use. :)

  15. Is it possible to make it compatible with clips? And I possible could you do a mod for it?

    ReplyDelete
    Replies
    1. Anonymous,

At this moment i don't see any easy way to do it due to the current design... the system would have to be re-designed to somehow incorporate another series of mechanisms and parts to advance/chamber foam darts into a bolt or barrel for firing, and all that has to be done with just the single short draw of the trigger.

Personally, i don't have the time and patience to do such projects (its much easier for me to just mod a compact full-auto Stampede SMG instead)... but i would be keen to see if other modders can successfully find a way to do a clip conversion on it too. :)

    2. If that's the case maybe ill interrogate it into a longstrike or any other cs blaster instead or do the way I asked.either way I will post it on a blog or something and show u it maybe.

  16. Is ther e anyway to make the trigger pull shorter ?

  17. Is it possible to have these internals with the no motor semi auto in a recon?

    ReplyDelete
    Replies
    1. Unknown,

Well, its possible to retrofit the priming and firing system into a Recon, but it lacks the chambering mechanism of the Recon... so while you could prime the plunger tube with it, the foam dart will still need to be chambered separately with the Recons bolt sled system.
