Nerf N-Strike Jolt (Blue Version) - Plunger Tube Internals

Note:

- To disassemble the  plunger parts, just use a flat head screwdriver to pry and separate the metal rivet piece from the plunger head and rubber padding, then use a pair of pliers to twist the metal rivet piece off the plunger rod.

 - To replace it back, just reverse the process (make sure the rubber padding is positioned back properly). Twist the metal rivet back into position. At the final point, just use a hammer to tap it back into place.

  1. Are the springs the same? Anything different?

    1. Anonymous,

Both their springs seem to be similar (could be considered same), as i didn't detect any noticeable difference in spring load between them.

    2. It looks like Nerf IS making it harder to mod their blasters... the orange Jolt only needed a screwdriver to open.

  2. It looks like a rivet on the end of the plunger. Any thoughts on the ease of removing the rivet so the plunger bar can be rotated 90 degrees? That was the first adjustment to my existing Jolts.

    1. X,

I've just updated the internals guide to include a photo of the plunger tube internals... along with some steps on how to remove and re-install the metal rivet. :)

  3. SG, you rock! Thanks! Before grabbing one, I wanted to make sure I didn't end up with a blaster that kept hitting hands. Thanks for your work and for the update.

  4. What's the diameter of the plunger tube, so i know what size PVC to get (I'm planning a plunger tube extension).

The inner diameter (ID) if the Jolt's plunger tube is approx. 25mm wide.

    2. Also, what is the ideal barrel length if i was to re-barrel the Jolt (i have an LSFG spring inside as well)?

    3. Anonymous,

It depends on the foam dart tip weight, balance and barrel fit... but i guess you could try 3-4" barrels. Seems most modders use that barrel length, 'cos there is still a limitation in power due to it's really small plunger volume. :)

Actually, a good idea would be to start with a longer barrel, maybe a 6-7", then do range tests and gradually shorten the barrel in 0.5" or 1" steps, then see which exact length gets the best ranges for your particular setup.

  5. Which is better, the blue or the orange one?

Performance-wise, both version seem to be similar (just +/- a few feet in range), so i guess it just depends on which color scheme you prefer.

  6. is there any way to remove the AR on the jolt?

    1. Anonymous,

Its possible to remove the Jolt's AR, but you'll need to cut open the back part of the barrel to remove it, then glue it back together again.

    2. I have a good selection of Jolts, LOVE this jewel, family calls em the Noisy Cricket. Any how, modded a few of them, before and after Chronygraph and distance measurements withe Elite streamliners, suction cup and whistlers. No real improvement in removing AR. removing the dart guide/rod has proven to the best mod in that allows the older streamliners to seat deeper into the gun improving their velocity and range "almost" comparable to the whistlers. Just use a pair needle nose, grab it and twist while puling, it will snap off flush in the bottom 90% of the time. Tried some spring mods as well, nothing I've tried yet has helped, still more springs to test, will also try some rebarreling as well. Rotating the plunger 90 degrees is seems like it won due more natural, for some shooters that have tried both it seems 50-50 split, ymmv.

    3. It's not necessary to remove the backplate from a jolt to get the AR out. I have used screwdrivers, needlenose and such to punch out the peg plate and poppet with only the PT and barrel for access.

I recommend removing the AR for increased reliability.

  7. can the elite jolt shoot whistler darts?

  8. Can you be more detailed on how to remove the metal tip from it? I tried to pull and twist it out with no luck. Am i doing something wrong?

Its no rocket science... just use a pair of pliers and pull it out, use more strength or ask someone stronger to help you.

It can't be any more detailed than that. :)

    2. So its not screwed in or anything? just brute force?

      Delete
    3. Anonymous,

Yeah, there are just some grooves on the rivet to create friction, you'll need to apply strength to pull it out... like pulling out an iron nail.

    4. Yeah, just a *lot* of brute force. I started to wonder whether it had been glued in, but then it came out.

  9. Elite darts seem to perform way better than standard.

  10. Could you show an image of how the nerf gun actually works? Like what happens inside of the plastic shell?

    1. Anonymous,

Well, i don't have a drawing of it or an x-ray machine to show how it works... but its quite simple to describe.

When the priming handle is pulled downwards, it compresses the spring and the top part of the plunger catches a hook situated inside that is part of the trigger.

When the trigger is pulled, it releases the plunger and fires the blaster.

  11. If i remove it and add another spring in it,the rivet still have the strength to hold it??
    Thanks

  12. sgnerf so just pryoff the metal piece with a flat head just or are their more options and will a spring addition work?

    ReplyDelete
    Replies
    1. Anonymous,

Yeah, just remove the metal rivet and the rest of it is easy to open.

A spring addition can work, just that it has to be small enough to fit properly and not block the main spring from compressing when primed.

  13. Where can i get a better spring for the jolt to make it more powerful

  14. I tried everything but the rivet won't come off. My screwdriver slips and I almost stabbed myself. Alternative methods?

    1. Hugo,

Just have to be careful when prying off the metal rivet (point the screwdriver away from you)... its usually easier if you use a smaller flat-head screwdriver that has a thinner edge.

  15. How do you disassemble the muzzle off the nstrike jolt blaster?

    ReplyDelete

    1. Unknown,

The orange N-Strike Jolt blaster originally came without the front muzzle cover.

Not sure how to remove it on the Blue Elite version though, probably have to pry it off with a flat-head screwdriver or something.
